When you watch TV shows and films, especially American ones, everyone seems to work in an office. That’s Fair enough as lots of people do work in an office environment, however I find it funny that they all sit at their own personal desk surrounded by huge office partitions. I have been in a few offices in the past and none of them look like this!
They all look as though they are still in school having to sit at their own desk without anybody surrounding them during a test. The thing that made me think about this was when I was sat watching Friends last night. It was one of the early episodes from the days in 1994. It cut to Chandler who was sat in his office and there were three huge partitions surrounding him. The giant desktop computer which he was working on also made me laugh too; it just goes to show how fast technology is developing!
I don’t class Friends as an old show either, so seeing his office in this way was pretty amusing to me. When this episode was aired for the first time, I was only a baby so maybe day in the office used to look like this? Luckily for workers today, office areas are much more spacious. Well, the ones I have worked in anyway. However I think it would be much more fun to work in an office alongside Chandler Bing, even if you can’t see him or anybody else because of the big board obstruction your view!
Office partitions still come in handy however to keep areas sectioned off, instead of people. Many offices use them to stick notes and posters too as well making them multi functional. Who’d have thought office partitions were so interesting? Of course if you aren’t keen on a colleague, then you will be wishing your company would go back to the old working environment days. Nobody would want to be sat next to a Janice all day, no matter what the pay is like! You could always invest in some sound proof headphones to drain out the annoying, wining voice.
