3D Technology Only For the Judges

FIFA has ordered a 3D stereoscopic imaging from scientists  but not for use on matches.
Spain is the second time  in a row deservedly became European champion in football, but after the championships are many other "tails" that are related to faulty appraisals, especially in not awarded offsides and undetectable crossings ball over the goal line.
Scientists at the Spanish University Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) used stereoscopic 3D  to record "exercises hinterland", which FIFA will continue to use as teaching material in professional courses for assistant judges. The goal of this innovation unfortunately is not introduction this technology in the official competition, but the enhancement of learning assistant referees with multimedia materials that provide a visual experience that is most similar to the real events.
Over two days there were 500 stereoscopic 3D simulations included with different types of exercises, similar to those used in professional courses for international FIFA referees.
"Using stereoscopic images will significantly enhance the learning experience, given the fact that 3D stereoscopic images create a visual experience that are much more realistic than 2D," said Professor Manuel Armenteros UC3M, project coordinator.

What are the stereoscopic images?

The technique of creating stereoscopic images using two lenses, one for each eye giving a greater sense of depth to 2D images. Visual perceptual systems use the differences between images of each eye to calculate the depth. Despite the fact that stereoscopic 3D technology used for many years  it  could not achieve widespread use until it was digital imaging.
"Stereoscopic 3D revolution is associated with the digital revolution," the researchers said, adding that the overlapping of two images needed to create stereoscopic images using a computer, eliminating the imperfections of previous techniques.

Even if the technology could be used without problems and with the goal of official control "suspicious situations" at least on the big football competitions, scientists say they were hired only for the FIFA referee courses but none are officially considered its introduction in order to correct judicial decisions on therefore matches.

This means we will very probably in two years at the World Cup in Brazil, still depend entirely on the eyes (and honesty) of the judges.
