The Creative Thinking

Creative thinking is the purest and most original form of thinking which is meant for creating new objects. Invention also involves best of, creative thinking. Originality and creativity are the foremost pre-requisites for artists and inventors. In fact creativity can be manifested in any sort of activity. Whether as a player, orator, teacher, politician, painter or a musician, whosoever shows originality and novelty in integrating the elements of a situation into a harmonious whole, are creative thinkers. They will be called creative if they succeed in projecting their unique personalities. Such ability is determined by their gene and culture which lead to development of a novel effect, events, concepts or theory.

Creative thinking is likely to involve much of inductive reasoning. It means departure from rigid, conventional thinking patterns. Creativity is also an ability to have a look at the situation every time in a new manner and from a different angle. The creative people must also use evaluative thinking at the proper time, be able to criticize their ideas, review them and polish up the final product. It is essential that for obtaining the original idea a free floating imagination be adopted. But systematic testing and evaluation of idea is required to shape into the final form.

The production of creativity is expected to be a new and unique way of conceptualizing the world around and the emphasis must be on the word new. As the creative thinker is aware of the new idea, it is said that much of the thought has already been in his unconscious mind.

The Nature of Creative Thinking
Guilford (1967) among several investigators made an attempt to measure creativity. He made an elaborate study in which a battery of test was constructed and carefully analyzed. In this work the concepts of convergent and divergent thinking came up. A creative thinker has first to gather relevant information and then to proceed to work out the right solution. He follows the rules of problem solving as we stated above. Usually the result of convergent thinking is a solution discovered by come in use only partially somewhere during their long creative thinking process.

A variety of thought is analyzed in divergent thinking. People tend to think in a divergent manner when thinking creatively. They are involved, thus, in varied thoughts. Divergent thinking also includes autistic thinking and some convergent thinking. The creative thinker may use convergent thinking to gather in formation and ideas as building materials but may drift as well to autistic one or free association for the ultimate creative achievement. In this process the symbols of thought have private meanings to him and the thinker comes upon useful ideas that would have been missed by concentrating on the problem strictly.

It is expected that intelligence must have high relationship with creative thinking. But Getzels and Jackson (1962) have revealed that only a low correlation was there as measured by conventional intelligence tests. According to Crockenburg (1972), persons low in intelligence is often also low in creativity, but high intelligence is no guarantee of creativity.
