Blogging Tips for Philatelists

To the common man, a stamp is just a piece of paper with a picture that has to be pasted on a postal card or envelope. On the contrary, to a philatelist, every detail such as the perforation, watermark, texture, color, print, and so on tells a story. Philatelists store a treasure of history in pictorial forms. Every stamp in their collection is like a piece of a huge jigsaw puzzle which will fit into a place in history. The Internet has opened the door to the collection of other philatelists. They can now exhibit their collections virtually and share their views and studies. All the overwhelming emotions about philately that have been rattling within their minds have found an outlet. And the outlet is blogging!

There are various types of philately such as:

  • Thematic philately
  • Postal stationery
  • Aero philately
  • Cinderella philately, and
  • Revenue philately
You may not be able to identify yourself as one among the aforesaid groups. Just having a stamp album and an eye for detail is enough to start blogging on philately. Some of the ways to make your blogs on philately more intriguing are as follows.

Categorize

No organized philatelist would have made an album of stamps without categorizing them. Well, it’s time to shuffle your collection and find a new way to categorize them. Stamps are usually categorized based on colors, country of origin, period they were in use, pictures, etc. Look at your collection from a different angle and categorize them based on a unique criterion. It is sometimes necessary to be weird to stand out from the crowd.

Furnish Facts

Just explaining your stamps is not philately blogging is all about. The viewers can see the pictures, lines and colors themselves. What details you need to focus on are the textures, postal marks, and such other minute details which are not visible to the viewers. Share facts about your stamps and explain what makes them unique.

Don’t Keep the Door Wide Open

Once you start blogging on your collection, you will be tempted to display all your stamps at once. It is true that exhibiting your collection is matchless fun. However, you will not have anything to speak about in the future. If people learn that you have no more new exhibits, they will not feel like visiting your blogs again. So, share in small amounts and let them view only a part of your collection in each blog.

Vary Patterns:

Vary the pattern of your blogs. If you follow the same pattern for all your blogs, people are going to skip the parts that they find less interesting and read only a portion of your blogs. Therefore, follow different patterns for each blog. You may not be able to come up with a creative idea for every blog. Don’t be worried. You can just change the way of presentation at such times.

Cards:

When you are writing about postcards, see that the picture is scanned properly such that the postal markings are clear. If the pictures are not clear enough, explain them a bit more than usual so that the readers understand what they are seeing.

Following these will make your blogs popular over a period of time. Encourage readers to comment on your blogs and interact with them to learn about their collection. Let your thoughts on the incredible hobby take the form of informative blogs and inspire others.
