Facebook Video Chat versus Google Hangout

There are quite a lot of rivals out there when it comes to Video chatting. Some will offer you special options that others do not, and some have better video quality than the others. There are several options when it comes to video chatting, so it can be difficult to decide which one is the right one for you. Two of the newest rivals are the Facebook Video Chat and Google Hangout.

Facebook Video Chat

The Facebook Video Chat is not easy to find. You have to visit a special site in order to even be able to download it. Everyone has access to it, but you have to know where to look in order to get the download that you need to operate it. The first step you will need to do is visit http://www.facebook.com/videocalling/  to have access to the video chat download. You will need to log in with your Facebook Username and Password, and then you have access to all of the features once you gain access to the Facebook video chat. Your friends will not have to chase down the website like you did if you would like to video chat them. You will still have access to your friends list and if you would like to video chat with one of them all you would have to do is select their name. Once you select your friend’s name then Facebook will send a request to your friend that they can accept if they would like to download the video chat.

Pros   -The video quality on the Facebook video chat is pretty decent when compared to other video chat software.
          - You can enjoy some of the great things that you do on Facebook like chatting and playing games, but you could do it while looking at your friends.
-Facebook is used by almost 760 million users, and this is what makes this FB option so attractive.
-If the person you want to talk to is not online you can send a video message to his/her inbox

Cons   - Now all of your virtual buddies will know how you actually look like.
-It is just a video chat, nothing more; there are no sharing YouTube videos or adding anything else to a dry conversation.
-In case you get a phone call from another person you can’t just pause the video if you don’t want your FB buddy to listen to the conversation, you have to either quit the chat or go to another room.

Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts is a challenger to the Facebook video chat. It is the perfect way to hang out with your friends when you are miles away or simply down the road. The nice thing about Google Hangouts is that you do not have to hire a private detective in order to track down where you need to access or download the Google Hangouts plug-in.

Pros   - You can even connect with YouTube and watch your favorite videos together
-It is fun for people who may have family in multiple destinations or grandparents who would like to see their grandkids.
-The video quality is pretty decent.
-In case you get a phone call you can mute yourself

Cons  - The video quality will suffer slightly with the attachment of each person that joins the group chat. That means that if two people are video chatting the video quality will be a lot better than the video quality of 10 people chatting.
-If the person you are calling is offline you are just out of luck, because you can’t send a video message into somebody’s inbox

The Verdict

The question remains: “Which Video chat to choose?”  Well, the best thing, as with everything else, is to have both options since in the future more and more people will definitely use Google Hangouts. Now, why is that, you may ask yourself. Simply because Google is the No. 1 search engine, and it will certainly stay number one for a while. Another good thing about Google Hangouts is the fact that you can use mutli-chat option, while with Facebook you are limited with 1on1 calls. On the other hand, how many friends do you have that currently use Google Hangouts?  Probably 1 or 2 (and this is if you have a lot of friends). So, for now Facebook wins the race just because of the number of the people that use Facebook, but if they don’t improve this service or add some options soon, Google will probably take the lead in  the future.
