We all know that Google’s association with Android is pretty strong, a fact that is evident in the Google Play app store for Android and other Google-Android partnership ventures. How about Google developing a service for the iOS platform? Surprised? Well, don’t be for it is true.
Google off late, announced a software update to its independent iOS explore application that offers advanced voice recognition and search technology. The new application is believed to mimic the Siri in its function with some added advanced features. The new software can tap into Internet search engine’s huge data banks in place of the assets accessed by virtual assistant of Apple.
In one of its announcement to an official blog, the giant search engine – Google declared that its best or most advanced voice-based search features has just come into the iOS. The new development may open access to the company’s exclusive online search tools and assets.
More on the New App
Quick tests conducted by AppleInsider showed that the application is brilliant and responsive. It lacks the system-wide and comprehensive functionality of the Siri but it does provide a more accurate and enhanced Internet-oriented search results when compared to Apple’s existing voice solution – Siri. Unlike the older versions of the software, this new search application from Google can give out solutions (recite answers). But the conversation cannot be carried on as in the case of Siri. This is a nevertheless a notable addition to the Google’s array of services. This feature brings a better interactive feel to the application, offering a ‘eye-free’ solution in querying the database of Google.
Performance
The innovative search voice feature from Google is speedy, converting commands into quick and real-time solutions, present relevant information with relative accuracy. Gearing this system is Google Knowledge Graph, an augmentation to the organization’s search engine which smartly connects searches made with the meanings. As per Google, Knowledge Graph can understand real-world entities and the corresponding relationship with one another.
Head-to-head comparison
In a head-to-head comparison between the two apps, but Google’s new product and the Siri performed pretty well and were similar. When queried about locations like the nearest Apple store, both showed the way in no time, however Apple’s application could not give solutions to specific queries like city population, geography details and other similar searches.
But Siri, as expected even before the tests were performed, trumped Google’s brilliant implementations when searching for even the rarest of queries like movies, sports and weather mainly owed to the developers taking advantage of Apple’s API.
While Google’s new voice-recognition explore feature improvises on Siri’s operations in many ways, Apple’s own product (Siri) will continue to be the best when used within Apple products. This is because Siri does not only do searches but also controls the mobile phone system functions like setting alarms, composing messages and other operations that requires low-level human intelligence. Apple has already vowed that its Siri will increasing become more intelligent and integrated to the iOS, taking over most activities that users perform over their phones. It will be interesting to wait and watch when the virtual assistant of Siri would be smart enough to perform tougher tasks like switching the Bluetooth on and off.
On the other hand Google’s voice search feature will instantly show pictures and result as you would see in its search engine. Unlike Siri, it will not ask you every time before accessing the Web.
Will Google new voice search put an end to Siri?
Google’s new and updated voice explore tool is available for iPhone and iPad. There were astonishments on how Apple allowed Google’s new feature (a possible rival to Siri) as analysts believed that it had the strengths to put an end to Siri. But one needs to keep their fingers crossed to see if the new feature is good enough to do that.
