A 1741 violin made by Giuseppe Garnen and believed to be owned by Henri Vieuxtemps, a Belgian composer sold for $3.9 million at auction. That is a heavy price for a musical instrument that is so old you cannot play it or enjoy the music it produces. Musical instruments have been known to achieve a good price tag at auctions before, but this is one of the top achievers, due to the maker and who the instruments belonged to. These days you can expect to find David Bowies guitar or Elton John’s Piano achieving a good auction price, imagine how much these will be worth in three hundred years from now and then you can understand why this unusual item achieved such a good auction price.
