De-clutter Your Life and Free Up Space in Your Home

De-cluttering your home is one of the easiest ways to add value to your home if you are considering selling. However, if moving is not on the agenda, a general 'clutter overhaul' together with the addition of extra storage could transform your home into a more organized and less stressful space.

Once you have made the decision to cull the clutter, you will probably want to consider options for storing the items that you wish to keep. You could employ someone to design and install a state-of-the- art storage system. Or you may decide to be thrifty and fit your own.
Storage systems that can be easily installed anywhere include shelves, lockers and small storage units. These can be hidden away in cupboards or used to complement the design of a particular room.

Home Storage solutions
Lockers are usually found in offices and other commercial premises such as schools, factories and health clubs. They can make a great storage solution, particularly if you work from home. They can also be utilized to lock away important items that you want to keep hidden from children or other family members.

Adding shelving to your home or office can be a simple way to help you get organized. There is a huge selection available in various materials including wood metal and glass. You can purchase them ready-made or make your own. Free-standing shelving units and storage cabinets can also be utilized.

Space-saving ideas

If you're smart, you can find additional storage space in most rooms. Drawers can be easily installed underneath beds or stairs where space is often wasted, while storage benches combine hidden storage with additional seating.

Small bathrooms can be transformed with painted units containing rattan baskets and you can make use of the space around your toilet or sink with cabinets or shelves. In kitchens pots and pans can be hung from hooks to create extra cupboard space.

De-cluttering tips
There is nothing worse than clutter to make you feel stressed. Despite beginning with good intentions, it is all too easy to accumulate piles of paperwork, junk and other possessions. Clutter will make your home or office appear smaller and could knock thousands off the price of your property.

Tackle one room at a time and be ruthless. Organize objects into separate piles of 'rubbish', 're-cycling', 'items to keep' and 'items to give away'. Unwanted items can be donated to charity shops or sold at car boot sales or via the internet. De-cluttering is not for the faint hearted. If the thought of it leaves you cold, you could even hire a specialist company to do it for you!

If have tried all of the above, but are still drowning in clutter, it may be time to think about other storage alternatives such as a garage or shed. Self-Storage companies have sprung up everywhere and you may like to consider hiring a unit as a temporary measure.

The thought of de-cluttering need not be daunting. With a bit of forward planning and an idea of where to store wanted items, your home or office could become a relaxing and welcoming space to feel proud of.
