Clueless about Orbit Downloader? Here’s a Friendly Guide

The Orbit Downloader program allows you to download music, streaming media, videos and other files on the web to your computer. Once you learn how to use Orbit Downloader, it will be integrated into your browser. It will also show a download option when you put your mouse pointer over a supported media.

Step 1
Download and install the program.

Step 2
Open your browser and click the Orbit menu. Choose "Enable Get It".

Step 3
Put your cursor over the media you want to download. A “Get it” button will appear. Click it.

Step 4
Decide what format to use for the download. All versions support FLV or MP4 for videos, but if you have a newer one, there may be more supported formats. The supported audio format is mp3. Note though, that FLV is not supported by Windows Media Player. If you want to download this file, make sure you have a player that can play it.

Step 5
Download the file.

Step 6
When the download is finished, go to My Documents where the file is located unless you changed it. Double click the file to play or view it. Or you can just launch a media player to play the file.

How to Use Orbit Downloader from Downloading JPEGS
Sometimes when you use the program to download streaming video, it may also download unwanted JPGs and other files. This happens because the application downloads all media on the page by default. But this setting can be changed easily.

Step 1
Find the media you want to download. Right click it and choose “Get it”. In some versions you just place your mouse cursor over the media for the “Get it” message to appear.

Step 2
At the Display box, choose "Flash", "Music" or "Video".

Step 3
Find the file you want to download. Click download. The file will be downloaded without those unwanted JPGs. 


How to Use Orbit with a Proxy

Step 1
Open the program and go to the Tools menu. Choose Preferences.

Step 2
On the left pane, choose “proxy”.

Step 3
Go to Proxy Type and choose the most appropriate type for your case. Under “Details”, type the proxy host address and port number. If necessary, enter your username and password.

The installation package is only 2 MB, so you can download it quickly. Because it supports RapidShare, you can share your files just as easily as you make downloads.

After you learn how to use Orbit Downloader, you can play the file using Windows Media Player, iTunes and other applications.
