Choosing the Best Images for Creating a Photo Book Online

Creating a book of photos is the newest alternative to making a photo album. With digital photography we have more pictures than ever to choose between, so how do we pick the best ones?

Twenty years ago, creating a photo album was a lot harder and the results were just not as good. First you had to wait for a film to be developed and then you would need to place all the pictures in the album because they were all you had. These days we can take as many pictures as we want and pick out only the very best to go in our album. Better than that, we can use online services to help us create an actual book. But how do you decide between all these pictures so that you can create the best possible book?

Family Photo Book
For a family photobook you will want pictures from a specific timeframe. These could be for instance a year or a season, depending on how many pictures you tend to take. With children changing every day, you also want to get these pictures in chronological order. The first tip is to choose varied pictures. People tend to take photos in fits and bursts; this means you may have twenty of one afternoon and then nothing for a month. Try to pick out as many from different places and days as possible as this will result in a more interesting book. Days out are especially important as the whole family will be able to look back and share in great memories.

Portraits are great but a few natural shots will add a bit of variety and are often more interesting to look at. If you are including pictures of friends then check with them first, not everyone appreciates a snap of them eating cake immortalised forever in a photobook!

Holiday Photo Book
When you get back from your holiday and your tan starts to fade the only connection you have with your trip are your memories and the holiday snaps. Again, variation here is key. Whilst it's important to include pictures of all the landmarks, attractions and wildlife you experienced, you also need to include plenty of the family or friends you holidayed with. Do check with everyone that they are happy with your choice of photos; many people may be uncomfortable about using shots of them in swimwear or asleep on a deck chair.

General Tips
You don't necessarily need to choose the pictures which are the best framed, as you can usually crop them. If you have a terrific shot but with something you wish wasn't in the frame such as a stranger or a pile of laundry, you can edit the picture using photo editing software at home before uploading.

Choosing a good variety of shots is key to producing a great photo book online. Try to include a good balance of people and landmarks as well avoiding unflattering shots of friends and family who might not appreciate it.
