Five Weird and Obscure Beer-related YouTube Videos

It’s October, and thanks to Munich, the world celebrates the Oktoberfest, one of the best excuses for a month-long beer-drinking binge! It’s the best time to head out with friends to the local bars and pubs to sample the brews and meet new friends while under the influence. Just watch out for obnoxious/violent/randy drunks, toilets that reek of puke, and relatives (trust me, you don’t want them seeing you inebriated).

One of the things I do while winding down from a beer-infused party is to browse around the Intarwebs for stuff to make me laugh or be weirded out on. So, one fine evening after a night out with my fiends, I took the tablet to bed and browsed YouTube for some bizarre beer-related vids. Bud Light videos notwithstanding (don’t get me wrong, I love their ads), I found a handful that piqued my interest. Be warned, some of these can be disturbing.

This video starts with the guy talking about the merits of the beer he was drinking. I thought this was going to be the usual beer review (I totally missed the title), and then he begins rambling on about various bits of news, his take on certain issues, paying the bills, and whatever else that was on his mind. It was so... stream of consciousness.

I read the title this time around, but it didn’t prepare me for this video. Some dude brought out a keg of Heineken and started pouring himself a glass, talking as he goes. It kind of got weird when his voice changed into what sounded like a fourteen year old boy (probably the one taking the video). Video pans to a cat, back to the full glass, man drinks, pans back to cat, and he scares it off with a bedroom voice “hello” and maniacal laughter. Just... weird.

Words fail me. All I can say is that it’s some strange Japanese beer ad that’s mostly this strange-looking caucasian man laughing continuously at the camera. It’s not just weird... I’m actually a bit unnerved.

This is an ad campaign that exemplifies just how weird things would be if beer didn’t exist. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at these ads, they’re simply hilarious. It has also convinced me that civilization would be very different (probably worse off) without beer.

I chose this last video not only because it was unusual; admittedly, I want to try it out myself! More than once have I been dunked with an ice-cold brewski, but immersing yourself in a warm beer bath is something I have not experienced. I wonder if any local microbreweries have this service available...

Regardless of which weird video entertained you the most, I wish you and your friends a most festive and beer-filled Oktoberfest!
