Pocket TV by Infinitec

The technological advancements in the recent years have kept us spellbound. And now, there is yet another project that anticipates transforming our humble TV into a Smart TV. Infinitec, a Dubai based company has come up with a conceptual product named Pocket TV which proposes to equip any television with the functionalities of a Smart TV.

It is not necessary that you should have a brand new television released in the recent years to be able to use the Pocket TV. The Pocket TV will work well on a television that is almost 5 years old. The Pocket TV by Infinitec is a bearer of good news for all those who can’t afford a hefty cheque. This is a smart way to own a Smart TV at a minimal cost.

The Pocket TV is a USB dongle that resembles a typical flash drive, but slightly larger in size. You have to simply connect the Infinitec Pocket TV to your television’s HDMI port. The Pocket TV functions like a mini computer and runs Google’s latest version of operating system, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The thumb-sized Pocket TV will make your television work like a mega-sized Android Tablet. You can also plug in the Pocket TV directly to a projector and play presentations from data stored on an SD card or cloud service.

Your regular TV starts working like a computer. The Pocket TV has a USB 2.0 input where you can connect a video camera, an external USB or hard drive, a mouse and wireless Keyboard. You can do the following tasks on a Pocket TV connected to a regular television:

  • You can use your TV to access Google Play Store and download apps.
  • You can stream videos using your TV. You can watch YouTube videos and videos from other sources like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. right on your television in HD. The Pocket TV supports a maximum of 1080p resolution to give you an enhanced television watching experience.
  • You can download songs, movies, TV shows and also play content from your computer.
  • Play games right on your TV. Wouldn’t it be simply amazing to play your favorite car racing game or Angry Birds on a big TV screen rather than on a small tablet screen?
  • Share new updates with your friends on Facebook and start tweeting.
  • You can do a lot of work on your television like editing docs, reading PDF files, create PowerPoint slides, send emails and make video calls.
  • You can browse the Web at ease and locate places on Google Maps.

The Infinitec Pocket TV comes with a Micro SD Port that is capable of taking a Micro SD card of up to 32 GB. In addition to this, it has a 4 GB internal memory. This allows users to store large number of applications and data on their Pocket TV. It has 1 GB RAM, 1 GHz ARM processors and weighs about 35 grams. The device connects via both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Infinitec has developed two types of remotes to operate your Pocket TV.

  • IR Remote: It is a basic remote that includes pad navigation based on direction.
  • Air Remote: This one is an advanced remote with a gyroscopic sensor that allows you to control the Pocket TV by holding the remote in your hands and moving it in different directions. It also has a QWERTY keyboard that enables you to type queries easily.

Infinitec has joined hands with Kickstarter for raising funds needed to make the dream project a reality. The move is to promote and seek support from people interested in this device. It is said that enough pledges have been raised to commence production and the product is supposed to hit the markets in October. Those who would like to buy one can make a pledge and preorder the Pocket TV from Kickstarter website.
