5 of the World's Most Precariously Positioned Hotels

When most of us head away on holiday we’re after sun, sea sand and, ultimately, a relaxing atmosphere. A hotel with a view is always a bonus too, but when that view entails staring down the edge of a cliff, the relaxation you were hoping for might have to go on hold until the next vacation. Whether it’s down to the cheapest available plot of land, or just daredevil hoteliers screwing with us naïve travellers, it beggars belief as to how and why some of these hotels would be placed where they are. Have a gander for yourself… just don’t lean too far over the balcony!

Monaco Cliff Edge hotel, France

One traveller making his way through Monaco in France spotted this incredibly risky hotel, casually tottering over a cliff edge like it’s the most normal thing in the world. The hotel looks to actually be built into the cliff edge, perhaps making it safer than you initially think.

Hotel Costa Verde, Costa Rica

This bizarre hotel is located in the forested mountainside of Manuel Antonio National Park. The location itself is quite daunting – after all, it’s not every day your hotel is situated on a steep mountainside. However the actual structure of the hotel is pretty amazing too. The hotel rooms are made up of old aeroplanes, which sit happily perched in the trees and branches.

Magic Mountain Hotel, Chile

This incredible hotel is actually a pretty secure building – it’s how you get to it that has the risk-factor! The hotel is a magic mountain with cascading water falling on top of it; only accessible by a swinging aerial ropeway! The ropeway takes you on a tour through the tree tops and canopies that surround the beautiful hotel and finally leads you to the front door…. Definitely only for the brave!

The Merlion Hotel, Singapore

Once you get inside this incomplete looking hotel, it’s probably got a great interior, but the matchstick-thin stilts that it’s perched on top of don’t look like the safest. With the hotel also being situated around one of the city’s most famous landmarks, the Merlion hotel is definitely in the centre of everything…. But would you brave enough to give it a try?

The Free Spirit Spheres, Vancouver Island, Canada

These incredible dangling spheres are by far the most bizarre and most precarious out there. Suspended in mid-air and accessible through a swing bridge and ladder, this is truly a once in a lifetime experience. It’s almost like a modern version of the treehouse, but much cooler and riskier. While it’s not for everyone, business is booming so some people must love it!

And if you don’t like hotels…

Here’s the perfect solution! Why not try this crazy idea out? You can skip the formalities of a hotel… in fact; all you need to do is pitch your tent. On the side of a cliff. Yes, the side, not the edge!
