Xbox 720 Plans Leaked

Recently, a 56-page document from Microsoft that dated back to 2010 was leaked revealing incredible features of a rumored Xbox 720. The estimated release date of this console was expected to be in 2013. Microsoft’s goal was to sell approximately 100 million units priced around $299 each for the year of 2013. Not only were proposed specs of the console revealed, but so were future Microsoft projects such as Kinect 2 and Kinect Glasses (Project Fortaleza).  Below are the possible specifications and features that were found on the document about the rumored products:

Xbox 720

Visually, the new Xbox 720 includes blu-ray support, a 3D output and a true 1080p output. The console is expected to have a 6X performance increase with either six or eight cores clocked at 2GHz each and 4GB of DDR4 memory. On top of this, the console will have 3 PPC cores clocked at 3.2GHz each allowing backwards compatibility with current Xbox360 titles. Continuing with the current goals that Microsoft has for the Xbox, the 720 will continue to strive to be the only entertainment box needed to handle any and all multimedia processes.

Kinect 2

The Kinect 2 is expected to be a higher accuracy motion sensor with improved voice recognition and support for four player game play. It is expected that accessories will be integrated into motion game play to provide a more in-depth experience. This combined with the proposed 3D capabilities brings us closer to real life virtual reality.

Kinect Glasses (Project Fortaleza)

Project Fortaleza is the code name for Kinect Glasses. The glasses are currently being researched and developed. They are similar to Google’s Project Glass and incorporates augmented reality. They will possibly be Wi-Fi or 4G enabled, but the purpose and exact use isn’t specified. The glasses are expected to be launched in 2014 after the release of the 720.

The previously leaked documents have since been pulled as requested by Microsoft’s law firm. These leaked documents have created an enormous amount of buzz within the gaming and tech community. The proposed features and capabilities of the Xbox 720 means that the future possibilities of gaming are endless.
