How to choose a career that you love

When I was young every time someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have a different answer. It was a fighter pilot like Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun, then a fireman like the one I saw when our neighbors house caught fire, then a FBI agent like in a show on television, then a scientist, an actor, and as the idols changed so did my goal. But by the time I was in college there was a career path, not one I was very excited about, but at least there was one. I always had a thought in mind that what I was studying to be could someday be my plan B, in case plan A didn’t work out. The problem was I never knew what my plan A was. Then one day I decided that I would try my hand at everything that interested me and eventually end up with something I loved doing. So, began my adventure, and quickly I realized that there are so many unexplored careers in front of me to try.
Arts

There are many short courses out there in pottery, decoupage, carving, sculpturing, painting, etc. Most of them don’t even cost a lot. If you don’t have any experience in arts, start with a hobby class you come across. Not only is it fun to learn something new, it is a great way to realize whether or not you have an aptitude for creatives. But also bear in mind that if in case you are not good at some form of art, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll suck at everything. I started with pottery and clearly knew it wasn’t for me from day one. Years after I still work with clay sometimes but my figures look like something made by a seven year old. But wood is where I really found my niche. I started designing and creating boxes and frames that could be sold for hundreds.

Writing

Many say that writing is a skill that either someone has or doesn’t. But I believe you can develop skills at any point in time. Take a creative writing class and get set with the basics. It is really as simple as that. If you enjoy writing the world is your playground. Thanks to the Internet writers can travel and live wherever they want and still make enough money to have a good life. I know people who are stay at home moms making thousands of dollars per year just by contributing to several websites online. All you need to do is start blogging about anything from finding the cheapest car insurance quotes to how to pack for your summer travel abroad. You may also want to create profiles on social networking sites like Linked In and Facebook to get your writing noticed.

Hobby

Wouldn’t it be perfect if you can turn something you love doing into a moneymaking business? Well, then what’s stopping you. There are people who love pets and making huge sums of money by simply pet-sitting or starting a parlor for pets. The trick is to explore your likes and interests to find something that will not only bring you money but also happiness and satisfaction. I have a friend who is an excellent tennis player. He had an injury some years ago and was told he couldn’t go professional. He was heartbroken for a while, but got back on the horse and has since been an inspiration to me. His motto is, “If you can be - be, but if you can’t be, teach”. He now coaches aspiring players and has fun doing it too.
