Top 5 Zombie Anime Movies and Series

Anime is Japanese animation and cartoons. It is an abbreviated version of animation. Anime, one of the most popular genres of animation today dates back to 1917and this characteristic animation style developed during the 1960s. Osamu Tezuka was the pioneer of anime. It became known worldwide in the 1980s.It is a recognized cartoon around the and like Manga has a huge fan base in Japan. They are hand-drawn computer animated series and their characteristic is the unusually large eyes all the characters have.


Isn’t it creepy to resurrect the dead and give them life with the help of witchcraft and mystical powers? The end-products of these means are zombies. They are walking dead people hypnotized and without consciousness or self-awareness. Zombies have been popular since the 19th century and have special places in European and American folklore. They have come as characters across various mediums like books, video games, movies, TV series and in animes as well.

Though it is hard to find many anime movies based on zombies, here are few:

High school of the dead:
With the present day as the backdrop, High school of the dead starts with the world being a victim to the lethal ‘pandemic’. It converts humans to living dead- zombies. The main characters in the movie are referred to as ‘them’ as they are neither humans nor non-living things. The story revolves around a school nurse, a group of high school students and a young girl as they fight every step of the way on the streets of Japan as the world gets affected by the catastrophic ‘Outbreak’. The rest of the school is turned into zombies. The group is led by Takashi Komuro and contains an additional six people and a dog. The rest of the story is whether they escape the catastrophe.

Resident Evil: Degeneration:
It is just a few days since the military wiped out Raccoon City where the T-Virus broke out from the map. The Umbrella Corporation’s stock hits rock bottom due to the destruction of the city and gives rise to WilPharma, a pharmaceutical company. Unlike other companies, WilPharma is working on a vaccine that converts humans to zombies. Claire Redfield comes to the town where WilPharma is situated when she realizes the entire town is in a zombie blood bath. The Special Response Team lead by Leon Kennedy is called in to save Claire and the other survivors of the city. The rest of the story is whether Leon succeeds in his mission.

Zombie-loan:
It is a TV series made by the Peach-Pit duo. It has been made into a serial by a Japanese magazine GFantasy. Michuri Kita a girl with special powers gets hold of Shinigami Eyes, a power whether with which she can find out the nearness of a person’s destined death by seeing a ring around a person’s neck which is invisible to human eyes. However, two boys in her class (Chika Akatsuki and Shito Tachibana,) have black rings around their which means they should have been dead. She comes to know they were supposed to die in a car accident but signed a pact with Zombie-loan. When she gets to know, she realizes her life has become more complicated!

Corpse princess:
The series has been illustrated and written by Yoshiichi Akahito. The series is about Makina Hoshimura a.k.a ‘Corpse Princess’. After getting murdered, she becomes an undead girl who has to hunt for hundred and eight undead corpses to gain entry into the heaven aided by anti-corpse Buddhist monks.

Le Chevalier D'Eon:
It is an anime series produced by Production I.G and is inspired from a true story written by Tow Ubukata. The story’s backdrop is Paris in the year 1742. Lia de Beaumont, a woman is found dead in a casket and floating ion the Seine. The entire death is mysterious and the only clues that is found is the word, ‘Psalms’ written using blood on the casket. Lia’s younger brother D'Eon de Beaumont a knight takes it upon himself to investigate the mysterious death of his sister and the disappearances of several other women. He comes across a ult organization called ‘Rose Cross’ who are using mystical powers in creating dark creatures to rule Europe. The rest of the story is whether he unravels the mystery or not.
