Inventing a product is something we all dream of doing. If only to solve our daily struggles with slightly less than perfect designs of things we use on a regular basis or conquer the world with fanciful solutions to problems that don't exist. However, while for most such notions are barely more than mind candy, some go further. Some actually get them to market...
Who doesn't want a pet? The problem with pets though is that they require looking after. They need feeding, exercise, vet visits and the list goes on. Not if they're a rock! Pet Rock is a pebble presented to the lucky recipient as if it were a pet. Some even come in a little carry crate with air holes and a bed of straw. The idea originally arrived in 1975 and has been going strong ever since.
There is a debate about the 'inventiveness' of this product. It is a blanket with sleeves and allows those who like a couch-come-bed experience the ability to use the TV remote, their laptop, drink tea and eat chips with ease. Now, how difficult these tasks were with a regular blanket is debatable. Regardless there are many versions of this product all over the world appealing to all those reluctant to exist with their arms outside the duvet.
This is as funny as it is ludicrous. You can't help but think that the name came before the actual idea, but Doggles is as you'd expect, goggles for dogs. It seems to me that dogs neither want nor need goggles, but that hasn't hindered the success of the Doggle empire. If you've always thought that your k-9 pal was just not quite as cool as he should be, then get him a pair of doggles. He'll be the talk of the town. As will you. And probably not for the reasons you were hoping for.
If you've a trophy of the taxidermy type that celebrates your finest fishing moment I'm sure you treasure it greatly. I'm not sure though that what you've reckoned it's been missing all these years is the ability to sing a tune. Big Mouth Billy Bass is exactly that. Admittedly he's more plastic than fantastic catch, but from his wall mounted position he can give you renditions of Take Me To The River or Don't Worry, Be Happy. He was funny, annoying and massively popular.
Brilliantly these teeth that give the wearer the appearance of hill-billy oral hygiene were designed by a dentist. They do look pretty funny too as gaps, plaque, crowns and stains rule supreme. These dentures have had a boost in popularity too by having been used in movies such as Austin Powers. The man behind the Billybob Teeth smile is Dr. Rich Bailey, who is a perfect example of the potential of an entrepreneurial deviation into the world of funny.
If you've ever had an idea for a product and thought that maybe it was a bit frivolous or unnecessary, remember one thing - Doggles.
