Technology Before Radar

Prior to the arrival of the aeroplane, acoustic location has been used on finding out the existence as well as location of ships in fog. Acoustic location has been used from mid-WWI to the earlier years of WWII for the passive recognition of airplanes simply by picking up the sounds from the engines. It was caused to become outdated before and in the course of WWII by the release of radar, that was much more efficient.
If you think better with all the advancement regarding stealth technology, this outdated on the other hand could become completely new technology once again.
